Introduction
I am David Au from Toronto, Canada. I am a grandpa with kids and grandkids. During these days, with the global pandemic, we all stay home no more gathering, no more activities, and games with friends. It is boring if we have nothing to engage in. I like casual and sporty clothes. Like the contemporary young guys, I enjoy surfing the Internet, exploiting something new and exciting, especially Youtube videos. My eyes were caught by the thumbnails with big headings "Money online," "Make $100/day," "Affiliate Marketing $$$." Nowadays, money comes and goes quickly and wirelessly. A big question hung in my mind on those thumbnails. Are they true? Why not give it a try? During this period, almost two years now, I have read and watched affiliate marketing stuff repeatedly, trying to find more and figure out what is going on in the affiliate market. Can I be a grandpa make some affiliate money? I create this blog, and this is the first post of my new blog, 'LEARN HOW TO DRIVE TRAFFIC AND MONETIZE YOUR BLOG.' Today let us walk through the what, which, where, and how of affiliate marketing using primarily some free tools currently available online. The Internet offers plenty of possibilities for making money as extra income. The technology makes it easier for people to make money at home and even on holiday in the resort. There is no doubt about that.
Affiliate Marketing
Now let us touch briefly on the business model that may make extra income. I am referring to affiliate marketing here. Affiliate marketing means recommending goods and services from other persons or companies (merchants). The merchants provide the products and commission to us (affiliates) upon our successful deals. It is very similar to a front store making a profit by selling products from the merchants or manufacturers.
As affiliate marketers, we make money as the middle man like the front store, but we do not have to carry inventory or delivery. We do not have to do accounting and bookkeeping. We make the commission as our profit upon the successful transactions. That is the extra income for us. We, as affiliates, are focused on promoting the products and connecting with the customers. Commission rates vary according to different products and merchants. We have to refer to the individual merchant for the detailed rate.
Niche Market
Before starting any marketing activity, research is essential. Doing plenty of research would ensure better success. What is a niche market? The niche market is a unique section of the big marketplace. It is fantastic but small. The big boys overlook as they focus on the big market. For example, I can think of organic food, underwater cameras, race bikes, vegan products, nostalgic photography, antique cars, motor racing, space travel, luxurious cruise, adventurous tours, quality life, luxurious life, hybrid vehicles, plugin cars, etc. The list goes on. When using your niche market, we relate to our experience, learning, gender orientation, passion, health, age, and personality. Here are a couple of examples for choosing a niche market.
- An energetic young man loves cycling. He cruises on the road every day on his bike for hours as his routine exercise. He has Fun with that, and he wants to join the bicycle tournament. He falls in love with his bicycle. This young man could choose race bicycle as a niche market if he goes affiliate marketing. He can go selling race bikes online. He can source from Amazon or Aliexpress and sell via such platform earning money as deals.
- A middle-aged vegan lady can sell vegan food through Amazon. She can also sell vegan digital products such as e-books and e-manuals from Clickbank, making commission money with successful deals.

Amazon is a massive platform with 200 million visitors per month. She has 2.5 million sellers. The product ranges cover lots of well-known commercial brands and digital brands. Here, access the Amazon website for detailed information regarding the company and its products.
Commission Junction
Commission Junction, also known as CJ., has 70,000 publishers selling big-name commercial and digital brands. She carries thousands of brands.
Shareasale
Shareasale is fast growing with 16,500+ merchants, 225,000 publishers, and 182 million sales in 2020.

Which and how to choose your merchants? There are plenty of merchants from the platforms I have mentioned above. They are reputable multinational platforms. Therefore sourcing suitable merchants is not a problem at all. Choose the names we know and our family. Make use of Google search, Youtube search, Amazon search. They help as they give more insight for us, making our decision more accessible and better.
Products
There are massive amounts, thousands, and thousands of products. We must find the most potential and suitable matches for our niche market. Before selecting your products to promote, search relevant information for the top 10 ranking products with the following free search tools:

Choose the top sellers related to your niche market and promote them. It would save a lot of your time, and it works much better than just choosing grabbed from the top of your mind.

I joined Clickbank and became her affiliate selling digital products. As an affiliate member, I access the Clickbank affiliate dashboard to choose my selected product among hundreds of products to sell online. There is two product. Each product has two links. One is the product landing page link for the prospect, and the other is the affiliate link for the affiliate information. I selected the landing page link and then promoted the link in my blogs and videos. Now we come to the crucial part: how to promote the product.

The merchants provide affiliates with good tools for their promotion. They are in the affiliate dashboard. There are other free resources for promoting more traffic to your product-related website. They are:

Keywords
When promoting our product, we need to have the "product title" and "product description." Use keywords in the title and description. Search engines need keywords to find our websites/blogs, and these keywords should be targeted and relevant to our selected topic. In daily terms, search engines like specialists and do not like generalists. They like pizza stores and burger stores. They do not like the store selling raw meat, veggies, and cooked meat mixed in one place. They want well-targeted and relevant keywords. Bear this in mind when we write posts. Check out the top-ranking website keywords by going to that page and right-click your mouse, and we can see the source code there and the keywords used. Now we can borrow their ideas, which helps a lot. Find our relevant keywords from this free tool. Another tool is also handy for writing our advertisements. It is the swipe file. It is constructive if you need some examples to help you write your advertising and call to action messages.

Go to Youtube.com and signup for an account. It is easy to join, and it is free. We can upload our videos and other people's videos with this account. Give a name under the title for each video and brief information under the description. The area includes a link to promote our website/product in the report.
For example, this link to Freelance Pay Cheque" is a digital product from Clickbank, and when people buy through this link, I get my commission.
