Affiliate marketing startup with Google Blogger - Revamp blog

Introduction

My blog, 'Affiliate marketing startup - David Au' was created on 26 Sept 2021. The theme used is the classic Travel Flight with a plain two-column layout. Today's topic is Affiliate marketing startup -  Revamp blog'.

Travel flight

Soho Red is the theme I use now.

About 3 weeks ago, I changed the blog to a new theme. The current Theme is Soho red. It is an entirely different look from the previous, Travel flight.

Theme Change

The reason to change is that the former version of my blog is not responsive enough, with a low 'core web vitals' of 5 for mobile and 69 for desktop, according to my Google Search Console. The next problem with the previous classic version is 'mobility usability.'

Core web vitals - desktop

Recently, I removed the header photo and the header Amazon banner and tested it with Google Search Console with GSC Pagespeed, and the score improved to 76 for mobile and 99 for desktop. It is a substantial leap forward. The mobility usability issue is automatically fixed with the change to Soho red. I am happy with this result.

The Google Adsense placement also improved, as reflected in the AdSense data. However, the number of people visiting and studying the advertisement is still few.

Google Search Console report

My usual practice

It is my daily practice to write a fresh post for each day. The Google Search Console helps me monitor the blog for its growth and performance. I can see the blog performs steadily with a bit of improvement almost every day until recently as I used a different approach. Instead of posting fresh content, I revamped some existing posts with new titles and tags and reposted them to the internet.

Some data regarding the revamped posts revealed the blog posts' 'average position,' and 'clicks' are declining. I noticed an abrupt decline in the blog's 'average position' in GSC. For easy reference, I highlighted it in blue for the readers.

Some performance data

Today I extracted some data from my logbook regarding the blog performance from 1st to 31st March. These data are updated daily by the Google search engine after each crawl by its search robot. The crawl time is not fixed, sometimes during the day and sometimes at night. Towards the end of March, the blog performance declined from its norm, as shown by the data regarding the 'number of clicks, '  'total impression,' 'average CTR %,' and 'average position.' I highlighted them in blue.

Definition from GSC

Google Search Console provides data showing how often users saw or interacted with links to, or content from, your site, as shown in Google Search, News, and Discover. This data is available in the various performance reports.

The following metrics are available:

  • Impressions: How often does someone see a link to your site on Google. Depending on the result type, the connection might need to be scrolled or expanded into view. See more details below.
  • Clicks: How often has someone clicked a link from Google to your site. See more details below.
  • (average) Position: A relative ranking of the status of your link on Google, where 1 is the topmost position, 2 is the next position, and so on. See more details below.
  • Click-through rate: The calculation of (clicks ÷ impressions).
